Two goals from Gill went unanswered by the Jersey champions Convicts |
Two second-half goals from striker Chris Gill gave Guernsey's Investec Colombians a 2-0 Upton win against Jersey champions Rathbones OV Convicts. Convicts created numerous chances and a dozen short corners, but were unable to convert any of them. Ten minutes into the second half Colombians took the lead with a neat effort from Chris Gill. With 13 minutes left, Gill converted a superb right wing cross from skipper Matt Watson to seal the win. Gill said: "Both teams put a lot of effort in and we were fortunate to get a couple of goals on the day. "I don't know about the first [goal], I think it came back off the keeper and I managed to just sort of scuff it in. "The second was a fantastic ball from our captain... pinged it across and I was just fortunate to get on the end of it and put it in the back of the net and there's no better feeling than when you see it go in." Guernsey had a clean sweep in the matches of champions over the weekend as in the ladies Cenkos Amazons beat the Jersey champions RWB 4-3.
