Puffins deny Amazons cup and league double

Hockey: Puffins v Amazons
Hubbard scored Amazons' third but was denied another by the post

The Ship and Crown Puffins denied Cenkos Amazons a league and cup double with a 6-3 win in the Guernsey Ladies Hockey Cup final on Saturday.

Alex Hanna and Debbie Wilson bagged a brace of goals each, with Clio Phelan and Megan Stewart scoring one apiece.

Izzy Wray scored two and Becky Hubbard netted once for Amazons.

Puffins co-captain Hanna said: "It was a really, really impressive team performance - it's hard to pick out individuals."

The game was close at 4-3 and Amazons had a good period of possession in the second half, with three good chances either slipping past the post or bouncing out off the woodwork.

With Amazons' luck seeming to run out Puffins took the initiative and finished off the game with two more goals.

Amazons captain Leigh Le Page said: "Puffins thoroughly deserved their win. Unfortunately we didn't play as well as we have been this season and Puffins took full advantage."

Hanna said: "Amazons gave us a great game and we had to work really hard to cover their breaks, but we played the ball around well, worked as a team, and fought for every ball."
