Amazons win over Cubs gave them the title with one more fixture to be played |
Cenkos Amazons secured the Guernsey Ladies Hockey Division title with one game still to play after a 10-6 win over Cubs at Footes Lane on Saturday. Having finished second or third in recent seasons the club has managed an unbeaten run this time out. Captain Rachel Sharp told BBC Guernsey: "It's fantastic, we've been helped by having a consistent squad for the last few years. "Consistency and availability this season have made a difference to us." Sharp said two youngsters have in particularly shone out in a side of mainly experienced players. She said: "Lucy Sharrott in goal and Izzy Wray, who has been in the middle of the field for us, have played outstandingly. I think Izzy scored six goals today. "Certainly this year we've scored a lot of goals. Short corners have been especially good for us, and in open play, too, we've had a lot of movement up front."
