Loveridge also hopes to compete at the 2012 Olympics in London |
Guernsey's Alice Loveridge has missed out in her latest attempt to qualify for the 2010 Youth Olympics. The 15-year-old reached the final of a qualifying event in Cairo, but was beaten in straight games by number one seed Sofia Polcanova. On her way to the final, Loveridge beat the number two seed, Croatia's Mateja Jeger in the group stages. Loveridge will have another chance in April to qualify for the Youth Olympics, held in Singapore in August. The Sarnian's victory over Jeger was the first time a Croatian has lost to a British girl at youth level for 30 years. Loveridge went two games and 9-4 down in the tie against Jeger, but managed to fight her way back to win the third game 12-10, before taking the next two 11-9 and 13-11. At the European qualifying event held in Italy in April, Loveridge will be fighting for one of four more places to go to the Youth Olympics.
