Guernsey's Alice Loveridge missed out on her first opportunity to qualify for this year's Youth Olympics but secured the biggest win of her career so far. The 15-year-old lost in the semi-final of her qualifying tournament in Bahrain to eventual winner Britt Eerland from the Netherlands. Loveridge has two more attempts to qualify for the Youth Olympics, in Egypt and Italy. The Games are being held in Singapore from 12-26 August. In the group stages Loveridge beat a player ranked nearly 100 places above her. The world junior 183 beat India's Mallika Bhandarkar, ranked 84, in a tense decider 12-10 11-6 4-11 4-11 11-4. She topped the group stages with wins over her other two opponents Lebanon's Melissa Saber and Malaysian Ann Er Lim. To reach the semi-finals she beat Katsiaryna Baravok from Belarus 14-12 11-7 11-8 9-11 2-11 11-9. Eerland, the top European junior ranked at 62 in the world, beat Loveridge in four straight sets.
