Vikings A have won the Premier League four times in a row. |
Vikings Ladies thrashed Penrith 8-3 in the England Hockey Women's Vase to go through to the third round. Captain Kim Carney found the net on five occasions to help her side to a convincing victory over the Cumbrians. The Douglas-based side will now play either Stratford or Oldham on 20 February in the third round. The club qualified for the competition after winning the Isle of Man's Women's Premier League and reached the semi-finals in last year's campaign. The Women's Vase, which is a straight knockout competition, has been running since the 2000/01 season. The Manx side are also celebrating after regaining the Women's Premier Division, after their nearest rivals Valkyrs A were held to a 3-3 draw by Castletown A. Elsewhere, honours ended even between Valkyrs B and Castletown B in a 0-0 draw, while Ramsey A beat Bacchas B 2-1 in a closely-fought match. There was further cause for celebration for Vikings in Women's Division One, as Vikings B upheld their 100% record and clinched the league title and promotion after drawing 1-1 with their closest rivals Harlequins. In the Men's Premier Division, Bacchas A maintained their 100% record with an impressive 6-2 victory over Vikings A. Valkyrs A also kept up their good run of form thrashing Bacchas B 7-0, while Castletown A and Vikings B drew 1-1. Already relegated Saracens A ended their campaign on a high note with their second win of the season, thrashing rivals Harlequins A 6-1.
