James McLaughlin smashes trial record

McLaughlin has been preparing for the Commonwealth Games

James McLaughlin smashed the Guernsey Velo Club's five mile time trial record on a course starting at the Catioroc on Thursday.

He knocked 20 seconds off his own previous record to finish in 10 minutes and 14 seconds.

McLaughlin has returned from three months' racing in France in preparation for the Commonwealth Games.

As he had been mainly road racing, he rode the five mile time trial to test his solo form.

He is planning to ride British Time Trial Championships in Wales this weekend.
