Cyclists take four French podiums

Guernsey cyclists left the Duo Normand with a victory and three second places across various categories.

The annual French cycling race is a two-up time trial on a road circuit of more than 54km.

Aaron Bailey and debutant Grant Chalmers won the unlicensed category in one hour 19 minutes 11 seconds.

Another Guernsey pair took second place in the tandem category. Guernsey riders were one of the second placed pairs in the second category and womens' event.

Ann Bowditch and the UK's Lesley Walking finished the 42km women's event in a new record of 65 minutes 22 seconds

The pairing of James McLaughlin and Jersey's Rob Ovenden finished in one hour 14 minutes 12 seconds in the second category, which gave them second place.

The tandem team, Chris Le Page and Graham Le Maitre, suffered a number of mechanical problems and ended up freewheeling the final kilometre to finish second.

The 2009 event was the third occasion Le Maitre and Le Page had ridden together.
