Guernsey will be taking its biggest ever team to the Commonwealth Games for the Delhi 2010 event in October.

A total of 45 athletes have achieved the qualifying standards to compete in nine sports.

The 2006 Melbourne Games saw 42 athletes from the island compete with Dale Garland coming closest to a medal with a fifth-place in the decathlon.

Tennis star Heather Watson will look to follow up on her gold in the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2008.

Guernsey Commonwealth Games Association executive said there were question marks over the eligibility of two athletes who have met the sporting criteria, but have not resided in Guernsey for the requisite five years.

The executive said it hoped to gain a dispensation in respect of those athletes.
