Merrien was the defending champion at the Bowls World Cup |
Guernsey's Alison Merrien has been beaten in the semi-finals of the Bowls World Cup in Australia. Defending champion Merrien lost 7-5, 10-2 to New Zealand's Jo Edwards at the Warilla Bowls Club on Wednesday. "I'd played her already, but she was playing a lot better than I was," she told BBC Radio Guernsey after the loss. "My performance wasn't as good as I was hoping. It came good in the past two days but it just went off the boil at the end." She added: "I've come away with a bronze medal, it's still a good achievement, I'm still up there and hopefully it's gone towards my ranking points." Merrien returns to the island later this week and will next play in Swansea later in the month as she looks to bounce back.
