Both Channel Island teams to play in the opening day of the British Isles Bowls Championships in Belfast were beaten on Monday. The Jersey duo of Jamie MacDonald and Tommy Greechan went down to former world pairs champions Ian McClure and Jeremy Henry of Ireland. McDonald and Greechan lost their quarter-final 25-8. The Guernsey women's four, led by world finalist Alison Merrien, lost 21-18 to Scotland in their preliminary match. Merrien will represent the Channel Islands in the women's singles on Tuesday, where she will defend the title she has won for the past two years. The Jersey team of Alan Quemard, Lee Nixon and Greechan represent the Channel Islands in the triples against England.
