Merrien now faces 21-year-old Sian Gordon in the last four |
Guernsey bowler Alison Merrien is through to the semi-finals of the British Isles Bowls Championships. Merrien, who is the reigning champion, beat Wales' Betty Morgan, 21-13 in Belfast on Tuesday. "It's nice to get one over on her again and come away with a win," Merrien told BBC Guernsey. "It was tight until about halfway and then I managed to score quite a few ends," she added ahead of her last-four game with England's Sian Gordon. Elsewhere only one other Channel Island team managed to gain a victory, the women's pairs team of Carole Allan and Gaynor Thomas from Jersey beat Ireland 20-13. The men's triples team of Jersey's Gus McKinnon, Lee Nixon and Tommy Greechan lost 21-4 to England, while the women's triples side went down 16-15 to Wales.
