Mooney hopes his side can extend their lead at the top this Sunday |
Everton Tigers managed another two victories at the weekend in the quest for BBL glory this season. The Blues beat MK Lions 109-99 on Friday and collected a narrow 80-76 victory over the Jets on Sunday. "We kept them [MK Lions] at arms' length and we came out 10-point winners," Tigers director of basketball Henry Mooney told BBC Radio Merseyside. "Cheshire had nothing to lose at all. But we've beaten them three times now and and they've been close games." "We won by four points in the end but it was a tough game," Mooney added. The side now focus on their big title encounter with Newcastle Eagles on Sunday at the Liverpool Echo Arena. Everton played a game at the Arena last season when they fell to defeat against their local rivals Cheshire. Mooney is hoping it will be a better occasion for his side this time round and he wants another good turn-out from the fans. "We had 5,800 fans there watching the game [last season]," said Mooney. "Hopefully we can get somewhere near that on Sunday. It's going to be a fantastic occasion and its the best arena in the city. "We play Newcastle again on Tuesday and again in April. So these three games are going to determine who wins the BBL Championship." Tip-off against Newcastle is at 1500 BST at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Sunday.
