Moore hit four free-throws to earn the Eagles a six-point win
Newcastle Eagles' hopes of avenging their BBL Cup defeat by Everton Tigers were boosted with a 88-82 away in the BBL Trophy semi-final on Tuesday.
Eagles were triumphant thanks to 20-point hauls from Trey Moore, Darius Defoe and Andrew Bridge.
Everton's Andre Smith top scored with 25 points, but it was in vain as Moore netted four free-throws to seal an Eagles win.
The second leg takes place at the Arena on Friday, 20 February.
Everton Tigers head coach Tony Garbelotto told BBC Radio Merseyside his team are capable of turning around the six-point deficit when the two sides meet again on Friday:
"I'm massively disappointed at how we played.
"They deserved to win because they wanted it more. We said we wanted a challenge and we've got the biggest challenge ever now.
"We have to go in there and win by seven points, which we can do."
