Winning XV owed chance - Vickers

Rob Vickers
Vickers made his Falcons debut in December 2006

Newcastle hooker Rob Vickers believes that the Falcons are right to stand by the side that has earned them two consecutive wins in the Premiership.

Last weekend's win at Bristol followed a defeat of Gloucester and Vickers feels the current first XV are due a chance to prove their worth.

"Hopefully it reflects how we are playing," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"If players are playing well then the players deserve to keep their place and the performance at Bristol was good."

The Falcons take on Saracens at Kingston Park on Friday night, in what will be a dress rehearsal for April's European Challenge Cup quarter-final between the two sides.

Matt Cairns will be Vickers' opposite number in the Saracens pack, but the 27-year-old said he will be concentrating on his own game.

"I don't know too much about Matt Cairns, I just treat all players the same," said Vickers.

"A lot was said about [Bristol hooker] Mark Regan and how abrasive he can be but it's just another player to me.

"You just get on and do you job, and if you do your job well then it doesn't matter how abrasive they are," he added.
