Mathew Tait has signed a new one-year contract at Kingston Park |
Newcastle Falcons full-back Alex Tait has agreed a new one-year contract with the Premiership club. Tait, 20, has opted to remain at Kingston Park despite interest from other clubs and is delighted with the Falcons' current form. "There is a real buzz around the club right now, with a good core of players working hard together," he said. "We have really turned things round since Christmas, the team is coming together nicely and I'm excited." Retaining Tait's services is a bonus for director of rugby Steve Bates, who has seen David Wilson and Geoff Parling secure summer moves to Bath and Leicester respectively. Bates has high hopes for the young back, brother of former Falcons and current England star Mathew Tait. | He is a fearless competitor, and an outstanding athlete with a good boot who is very solid under the high ball. "Alex is an exceptional talent who has already shown his class at Guinness Premiership level, and will only get better," he said. "He is a fearless competitor, and an outstanding athlete with a good boot who is very solid under the high ball. "It is therefore not surprising that there was keen competition for Alex's signature, but we are delighted that he has agreed this new deal." Tait made his Falcons debut against Cetransa El Salvador in November 2007, marking it with a hat-trick. He is the second Falcons player to sign a new deal this week, following scrum-half Micky Young, who put pen to paper on a new two-year contract.
