Guernsey's American Football team, the Islanders, are planning a fresh drive for support in the new year.

It was hoped the team could secure sponsorship and start playing regular matches this year, but a lack of funds has left the team on the sidelines.

Coach Steve Rains said the first step was proving the hardest at the moment.

"We're absolutely convinced once we get into green shirts and start representing the island more people will show an interest," he said.

"Our momentum has been slowed by the difficulties over finance."
