The new logo which will adorn the Guernsey Islanders' helmets

The organisers of Guernsey's new American football team have named the side the 'Islanders'.

The side is aiming to join the British American Football League next season and will play friendlies this year.

Guernsey could not use their old moniker of the 'Gladiators' as another team in the league already has it.

"We think it's unique in terms of us being the only island team in the British league," head coach Steve Rains told BBC Guernsey.

"It fits the logo that we've had designed as well, which is really nice, so we're looking forward to representing the island with that name," he added.
