American Football return delayed

Guernsey Islanders
Guernsey were named the 'Islanders' in March

The return of American Football to Guernsey may have to wait until the end of 2009 due to funding problems.

It was hoped the newly formed Guernsey Islanders would play some friendly matches this summer, but the team is struggling to find sponsors.

Head coach Steve Rains said the players have agreed to pay the costs of staging a game in Guernsey themselves.

"They've put their hands in their pockets again and hopefully we'll play before the end of the year," he said.
