Formula 1 big picture is a feature designed to showcase a side of a dramatic, visual sport that television cannot always portray. Over the last 20 years, Darren Heath has carved a reputation as one of F1's most original photographers. This is Darren's story behind his latest image: "Come the waving of the chequered flag, a Formula 1 grand prix is far from over for the photographers covering the event. "Effectively portraying the post-race euphoria can often present a real challenge. It's one I think long and hard about, weighing up all the variables of light, lens and likely behaviour of the drivers before making my decision of how and where to shoot. "The podiums of the F1 season are by necessity similar in design, height and appearance but one stands out as clearly the best in the world - Monza. "Just imagine the adrenalin rush Italian grand prix winner Fernando Alonso felt as he strode on to the winner's platform, perched as it is high above the track and looking down on the swarming mass of adulation that is the Ferrari-adoring tifosi below. "Not only had Alonso just scored a stunning win at the sport's most iconic venue, he had also punched himself right back into contention for the 2010 drivers' world title. "Trying to capture all of this drama on film is not an easy task but when all the ingredients needed for a great shot come together at once it's a joy to behold. "A flying saucer-like podium, three exultant drivers, passion-filled, flag-waving Italians, champagne from above and mid-afternoon late summer light - what more could a photographer wish for?"
