Formula 1 big picture is a feature designed to showcase a side of the sport that is sometimes missed on television - and one of the hidden gems can be found at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. Over the last 20 years, Darren Heath has carved a reputation as one of F1's most original photographers. This is the story behind his image from the Canadian Grand Prix, of McLaren's Lewis Hamilton charging down between Turn Two and Turn Seven on his way to a second successive victory: "Throughout the Formula 1 season the sport visits many different types of circuit, all offering to a lesser or greater degree creative opportunities for the photographer. "Some, of course, are better than others. Personal favourites include Monaco, Monza, Istanbul Park, Suzuka and Interlagos. They each have character traits that set them apart but if I were to choose one section of track as my stand-out it would have to be between Turn Two and Seven on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. "Diving, twisting and turning, this treacherous section of track has a real old-school feel to it, with blind, flat-out corners leading into tricky chicanes lined on both sides by barriers, wire mesh fences and concrete walls. "Trees hang over the cars to the left and right, with the St Lawrence River just a stone's throw away. "You can imagine, I'm sure, that photographic opportunities abound in such a setting. "This picture of Lewis Hamilton was shot with 10 laps to go as he thrashed his way to a convincing victory. "Where else would one be able to shoot a stunning race car, green trees and flowers in full bloom all bathed in warm early afternoon sunshine?"
