Formula 1 big picture is a feature designed to showcase a side of a dramatic, visual sport that television cannot always portray. Over the last 20 years, Darren Heath has carved a reputation as one of F1's most original photographers. This is Darren's story behind his latest image: "As a photographer who wants to stand out from the crowd one should constantly be on the lookout for something a little different. "A few laps in to the Hungarian Grand Prix, I positioned myself low down on the exit of the circuit's final turn and, after taking a number of shots of the cars as they powered away to start another lap, I noticed the scene you see above. "Way off down the pit wall the teams' driver information boards are hung out in readiness for the cars as they come past on the next lap. "Try to imagine racing past this cluster of super-colourful pit boards at 180mph, spotting the relevant board and reading what it says, while at the same time worrying about the car trying to pass you from behind, or trying to overtake the car in front. "Each team has its own font, colour code and board design but the day-glow letters and numbers still represent quite a challenge for the F1 drivers. "Of course, what makes this shot is the fantastic 'highway mirage' - Sunday's track temperature was a roasting 46C - producing the watery-like simulated reflection of the boards above. "I've always enjoyed shooting pictures such as this, not just for their aesthetic appeal but also to show just how rich F1 is in photographic possibilities."
