Jonathan Rea won Sunday's second race at the World Superbike championship round at the Nurburgring in Germany.

After finishing fourth in race one, Rea led for most of race two and held off the challenge of runner-up Ben Spies, setting a new lap record on his Honda.

The HannSpree Ten Kate rider from Ballyclare still lies fourth in the standings, with a total of 244 points.

It was Rea's second win of the season, the 22-year-old having won a race at the San Marino round in June.

Race one was won by Spies, with Noriyuki Haga second, Carlos Checa third and Rea, who had qualified in second position, in fourth.

Rea inherited the lead in the second race after early leader Haga crashed out and set a new lap record on his final circuit.

Checa was third and Biaggi fourth.

Eugene Laverty finished second behind England's Cal Crutchlow in his World Supersport race.

Laverty lies second in the championship on 188 points, 22 points behind leader Crutchlow.
