Laverty races to victory at Assen

Eugene Laverty held off the challenge of Crutchlow on his Parkalgar Honda

Eugene Laverty clinched a thrilling success in Sunday's Supersport race at the Assen circuit in Holland.

The Toomebridge rider, who secured his second win of the season, came in just 0.107 seconds ahead of Cal Crutchlow with Joan Lascorz a close third.

Laverty lies second in the series, six points behind leader Crutchlow.

Meanwhile, Ballyclare's Jonathan Rea was seventh in the opening World Superbike race before finishing fifth in the second race.

Ben Spies took the first race with championship leader Noriyuki Haga winning the second.

HannSpree Ten Kate rider Rea is ninth in the standings on 53 points.
