 Jonathan Rea won the Irish Racer Award for the second time |
Jonathan Rea was named Irish Motorcyclist of the Year at Friday night's Irish Racer Awards at the Ramada Hotel in Belfast. The 21-year-old from Ballyclare, who was second in the World Supersport Championship, took top ahead of North West 200 winner Alastair Seeley. Irish Senior Road Race champion Ryan Farquhar was third. Rea picked up the Short Curcuit Rider of the Year award with Cameron Donald winning the International Rider award. Rea's HannSpree Ten Kate Honda team-mate Andrew Pitt, who won the GPS International Achievement award, was a special guest. Farquhar dominated the Irish national road racing scene and earned a succession of consistent top-six finishes at the Isle of Man TT. The Dungannon rider collected the Ambridge Executive National Road Racer of the Year accolade. The Velux Team of the Year award was won for the fifth time by Relentless Suzuki by TAS Racing. Lee Johnston, winner of last year's British Superstock 600cc championship, is the Red Bull Young Rider of the Year while Michael Dunlop's emotional 250 victory in the North West 200 was the Irishracer.com Fans' Race of the Year. Dublin's Eddie Laycock was inducted into the Bridgestone Ireland Hall of Fame.
