Rea and Laverty miss podium spots

Jonathan Rea secured 24 points from the two races at Monza

Jonathan Rea and Eugene Laverty narrowly failed to clinch a podium place at Monza on Sunday.

Ballyclare rider Rea finished fourth and fifth in the World Superbike races at the Italian circuit and lies eighth in the championship standings.

Laverty was fourth in the Supersport race, which was won by series leader Cal Crutchlow.

The Toomebridge man, who won in Assen a fortnight ago, is 18 points behind Crutchlow in second place.

Rea was fifth in the Superbike opener won by American Ben Spies, with Michel Fabrizio second and Ryuichi Kiyonari.

The HannSpree Ten Kate rider moved up a place in the second race - Fabrizio secured victory ahead of Noriyuki Haga and Kiyonari.

Joan Lascorz and Fabien Foret completed the podium in the Supersport race.
