The West Indies won the final one-day international against South Africa by six wickets on Wednesday to salvage some much-needed pride.

Marlon Samuels was the hero as he notched up an unbeaten half century.

South Africa had already clinched the series but the West Indies' victory made the 5-2 scoreline slightly more creditable.

It was a low scoring match in difficult batting conditions in St Vincent.

South Africa captain Shaun Pollock had won the toss and elected to bat but his side could only manage to score 163 for 7 in their 50 overs.

Inspired

The Windies strolled to victory, reaching the score with 34 runs to spare.

Marlon Samuels led the way for the home side with a stylish, unbeaten 54.

Jacques Kallis was South Africa's top performer with a battling innings of 69 from 147 deliveries.

It was an inspired bowling and fielding performance from the home side that created the chance of victory.

Vincentian Cameron Cuffy, playing an international on home soil for the first time, led the way with and uninterrupted spell of 10 overs which brought him 3-24.

The match was special for South Africa veteran all-rounder Jonty Rhodes, who became the first player from his country to notch up 200 one-day caps.

West Indies: Chris Gayle, Daren Ganga, Brian Lara, Marlon Samuels, Carl Hooper, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ridley Jacobs, Neil McGarrell, Cameron Cuffy, Corey Colleymore, Kerry Jeremy.
