South Africa wrapped up a series win after beating the West Indies by seven wickets in the fifth one-day international.

Herschelle Gibbs was again in outstanding form, hitting his second century of the series, as South Africa took an unassailable 4-1 lead.

Earlier Brian Lara had hit a fine 92 but his team-mates did not hang around and the home side were only able to amass a hardly competitive 199.

It was an easy target for the visitors and they swept to victory in 41.4 overs for their fourth victory in a row.

Gibbs got hold of the Windies' bowling and thrashed them around the Kensington Oval ground.

He was lucky on two occasions though.

Firstly he was dropped by wicketkeeper Ridley Jacobs on 11 and then survived a catch appeal on 72.

Chief destroyer

Gibbs went on to make 107 runs off 132 balls with 11 fours and three sixes before he was caught by Carl Hooper.

Wednesday's match followed a depressingly familiar pattern for the West Indies fans.

Many left the ground early as it became clear that another big defeat was on the cards.

The only high point as far as they were concerned was Lara's return to form.

The left-hander faced 125 balls and hit nine boundaries before being bowled by Jacques Kallis.

Kallis, after being rested for Sunday's match in Grenada, returned to be South Africa's chief destroyer, claiming four wickets in 6.2 overs.

Kallis, opening the bowling, removed both openers and then returned to mop up the tail.

Bowling the final over, he had Kerry Jeremy caught in the deep and then bowled Lara the next ball.

The all-rounder was ably supported by Allan Donald who took his 226th one-day wicket to finish with the figures of three for 41.

Once again skipper Shaun Pollock proved a miser with the ball to concede just 23 runs off his 10 overs.

West Indies: Carl Hooper (capt), Chris Gayle, Daren Ganga, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Brian Lara, Marlon Samuels, Ridley Jacobs, Mervyn Dillon, Dinanath Ramnarine, Cameron Cuffy, Kerry Jeremy.
South Africa: Shaun Pollock (capt), Gary Kirsten, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Jonty Rhodes, Boeta Dippenaar, Mark Boucher, Justin Kemp, Justin Ontong, Allan Donald, Makhaya Ntini.
