"It was less a formal Question of Sport and more a bit of banter with the four lads," she confessed.

"John Parrott is a bit dangerous and you never really know how he will answer.

"You will have to ask him what he felt about the professional standard of this quiz."

Parrott was happy to offer his opinion.

"The four panelists were fantastic but I didn't think much of the presenter," he joked.

"She is on a youth opportunity scheme at the moment but I will put a good word in for her."

The show is due to be aired in one of this weekend's highlight shows, but Parrott remained unconvinved that the recording could be saved for a one-off special.

"It will be 30 seconds of marvellous TV," he said.

"My advice would be don't go out and put the kettle on, because when you get back it could all be over."

Parrott has been facing questions all week as part of his work with Famous Grouse.

But he confessed: "People keep asking me questions as if I know something but they don't realise that they give you the easy stuff on the show."

In actual fact, all four panelists displayed a surprising depth of golf knowledge and were rarely stumped by some tricky questions.

Carrott, who plays off a 14 handicap, was always quick with the answers, especially when he was asked for a tip for the championship.

He quipped: "I always bet on Jesper Parnevik, because he has such a stupid name."
