Norman lets lead slip
Australian Greg Norman
Norman is still in with a shout going into the final round

Australia's Greg Norman shot a third-round 74 to see him lose his lead at the Kemper Open.

The overnight leader found water at the sixth hole on his way to a three-over par round that saw him slip into a tie for ninth place.

Norman is still in contention for his first PGA Tour title in five years, lying in a group of six players three shots behind the new leaders Bob Burns and Bob Estes.

"It was a really strange day," said Norman, "Nothing really happened. Hopefully, I've got my bad round out of me and I'll be back in the 60s tomorrow."

Estes and Burns both shot 69s to move to 10-under, but with 22 players within five shots of the lead they still have it all to do.

Jay Williamson, who led the tournament after three rounds six years ago before nerves got the best of him, shot a 67 to move to second place along with Bob May at nine-under.

Should Burns emerge victorious he will become the Kemper's fourth consecutive first-time tour winner.

Injury troubles

"Hopefully that trend continues," said Burns, who has only led a tour event once before, back in 1999.

Burns has battled both personal difficulties and injury problems.

In 1995 he popped a rib out of its socket when he sneezed while watching television.

When asked why he has never given up, he said: "I've got nothing better to do. I haven't come up with anything that pays better. I'm not that good a fisherman."

Estes held the lead on his own before bogeying the 17th hole for the second consecutive day.

Leading third round scores (US unless stated):

203 Bob Burns 68 66 69, Bob Estes 65 69 69
