Southern Division Millwall Lionesses produced the shock of the FA Women's Cup fourth round as they beat Doncaster Belles thanks to Emma Whitter's goal.
There was also a surprise at Leicester, where the Northern Division side were beaten 4-2 by non-league Middlesbrough.
Chelsea swept into the fifth round with a 9-1 demolition of Northern Division strugglers Rotherham United.
Two games went to penalties, Derby edging out Lewes and Manchester City beating Newcastle in the third round.
On the weekend when the top flight clubs enter the competition, freezing temperatures around the country led to half of the day's scheduled 16 ties being postponed.
FA WOMEN'S CUP ROUND FOUR
Doncaster Rovers Belles 0-1 Millwall Lionesses
Millwall made a flying start and after missing a couple of early chances went ahead when Whitter cut inside to shoot home in the 15th minute.
The visitors had the better of the first half, but after the break the Belles took control and the Lionesses had goalkeeper Claire Lacey to thank for some fine saves.
Chelsea 9-1 Rotherham United
England striker Eni Aluko hit a hat-trick in Chelsea's big win, though at one stage it was 1-1 after Helen Lynskey had equalised the home side's opener.
Casey Stoney (2), Drew Spence and Dunia Susi were also on target while Rotherham contributed towards their downfall with two own goals.
Nottingham Forest 0-1 Liverpool
A Cheryl Foster goal four minutes before half-time settled the clash between top-flight survival rivals.
Forest had by far more of the possession but the closest they came to a goal was when Beth Bailey's effort hit the bar midway through the second half.
Sunderland 4-1 Cardiff City
Natalie Gutteridge struck twice as the Northern Division promotion chasers disposed of Southern Division opposition.
Gutteridge put the Black Cats ahead on the half-hour then Sophie Williams doubled the score a minute before half-time.
Zoe Atkins brought Cardiff back into the game in the 75th minute, but Gutteridge hit the decisive third goal with three minutes remaining.
The Black Cats had struck the woodwork four times but got a fourth goal in stoppage time through Nicola Devine.
Leicester City 2-4 Middlesbrough
Two Jess Close goals in the opening half-hour put Northern Combination side Middlesbrough on the road to a shock win.
Hannah Smith pulled a goal back seven minutes before the interval, but Boro made sure of victory in a late flurry of goals.
Nicki Duckling hit their third in the 82nd minute then, after a Remi Allen penalty had given Leicester hope, Duckling struck again in the last minute.
Lincoln 0-1 Ashton Curzon
There was an extraordinary turnaround in fortunes as the Northern Division's top team entertained the side sitting at the bottom of the table.
Lincoln had beaten Curzon 9-0 in the league but obviously underestimated them in the Cup as Emily Lambourne's 83rd-minute goal gave the visitors a deserved victory.
Derby County 3-3 Lewes aet (Derby won 4-3 on penalties)
Midland Combination Derby reached the fifth round for the first time in the club's history after an exciting contest against South East Combination opposition.
Lewes led 2-0 at the interval through Clare Trafford's brace, but the home side took the game into extra time with goals by Maria Wayne and Amy Pashley.
Emily Jeffrey then gave Derby the lead for the first time, only for a Helen Whitten equaliser to force the penalty shoot-out.
Derby again found themselves down in the early stages of the shoot-out, but they won through as Lewes missed both of their final spot-kicks.
ROUND THREE
Manchester City 3-3 Newcastle United aet (Man City won 8-7 on penalties)
Manchester City will entertain Northern Division rivals Preston in the fourth round after winning their much-delayed third-round tie.
It was all square at 2-2 at the end of normal time, Katy Brussell and Eleanor Turner scoring for City with Bethany Gardner and Rachel Furness replying.
Brussell's second goal gave her team the extra-time advantage, but Mel Reay's 118th minute strike took the tie to an epic penalty shoot-out edged by City.
