Smith took her season's goal tally to 20 with a double against Forest
Arsenal bounced back from their midweek Uefa Cup exit with a comfortable 5-0 win at home to Nottingham Forest.
England striker Kelly Smith scored twice as the Gunners maintained their 100% start to the season, while Forest remain in the relegation zone.
In the weekend's only other top flight game, Bristol Academy twice came from behind to force a 3-3 draw at Watford.
Lisa Burrows had scored to put the Hornets 3-1 up, but she netted a late own goal equaliser for the visitors.
Arsenal 5-0 Nottingham Forest
An eighth-minute goal by England left winger Rachel Yankey put Arsenal on the road to their 11th successive League and Cup victory in domestic competition.
Forest fought back well but the Gunners, stung by their midweek 6-0 Uefa Cup thrashing at the hands of Swedish side Umea, were in determined mood.
And they had victory wrapped up by half-time after Smith struck in the 33rd and 41st minutes to take her season's goal tally to 20.
England midfielder Katie Chapman bagged the fourth goal 12 minutes after the interval and Scotland captain Julie Fleeting completed the scoring three minutes from time.
Watford 3-3 Bristol Academy
Watford went ahead through Helen Lander after only five minutes, but Academy hit back for Katie Daley to equalise with her first goal of the season just after the half-hour.
The Hornets seemed set for victory when Lander and then Burrows scored goals in the opening 16 minutes of the second half.
But Grace McCatty put the visitors back in contention with a 63rd minute strike, and they grabbed a point thanks to the unfortunate Burrows six minutes from time.
