Rovers have high hopes for Graham Weir and Keiron Renton |
Second Division Raith Rovers have signed striker Graham Weir from Queen of the South and goalkeeper Keiran Renton from Elgin City. Renton, a 23-year-old who began his career with Blackburn Rovers, was first choice with Elgin for three years.
The 22-year-old Weir, who began his career with Hearts, scored four goals in 50 appearances since signing for Division One Queens in January 2006.
Manager John McGlynn previously worked with the forward while with Hearts.
And the Rovers boss told his club website: "He is a dynamic player, one that defenders don't like playing against as he works them and forces them into mistakes.
"I also believe that, at 23 next month, Graham is at an age where he is ready to get back to the top and, with hard work and scoring goals, I think he can."
McGlynn also believes that Renton, who had been offered a new contract by Elgin, has the experience to step up from Division Three.
The Rovers boss moved to sign another goalkeeper following news that Michael Brown would not recover in time from a dislocated shoulder for the start of next season.
It had been hoped that he would return in July following surgery.
But the latest medical opinion is that he will be back playing sometime between October and December.
