Jean-Louis Valois has become Hearts' latest signing ahead of the new Scottish Premier League season.

The French left-sided midfielder has signed a two-year deal at Tynecastle.

Valois, who has previously played for Lille and Luton Town, said Hearts defender Stephane Mahe convinced him that Edinburgh was the right destination.

"I spoke to (former Hearts keeper) Gilles Rousset on the telephone," he said.

"I also had a long chat with Stephane Mahe and he told me it was a good place to play.

"I had other options, but chose Hearts. I am an experienced player and if I can help the younger players then that is good."

Hearts boss Craig Levein was delighted to have added Valois to his other summer captures Mark de Vries and Kevin Twaddle.

He said: "I'm really pleased. We were short in numbers and what I had to try and do was ensure we had quality.

"Everyone I've signed is experienced. There are a lot of youngsters here and you can't build a whole team on young players."
