Stephen Glass had returned to Hibernian after his loan spell

The 31-year-old, who arrives from Hibernian, was linked with St Mirren after impressing on loan with the Pars.

Dunfermline manager Stephen Kenny said: "He's coming here to try to help us win the First Division.

"He's turned down a club in the Premier League to sign for us because he enjoyed his football here."

Kenny said that the former Aberdeen and Newcastle United winger, who has recently played left-back and central midfield, was "a good influence around the dressing-room".

"I think he will be an asset for the season ahead," said the Pars boss, who first brought Glass to East End Park in January.

Glass, along with several players brought in at that time, almost helped Dunfermline escape relegation with a late burst of form, but they just failed to overhaul St Mirren.

He was still under contract with Hibs but has been allowed to move on by manager John Collins.

Pars director of football Jim Leishman predicted that Glass, who began his career with Aberdeen and has also played for Watford, would continue to have a major influence on his Dunfermline team-mates.

"Stephen Glass is a very good professional footballer who plays at the highest standard and brings good balance to the side and is a good addition to the squad," Leishman told Dunfermline's website.

Glass, who won one Scotland cap as a substitute against the Faroe Islands in 1998, helped Aberdeen win the 1995 League Cup.

He also played as substitute for Newcastle against Manchester United in the 1999 FA Cup final.

And he made an instant impact on his return to the Pars, scoring in a 3-1 win over Brechin City in a pre-season friendly at Glebe Park.
