Parlour targets Old Trafford title

Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour said he wants the Gunners to clinch the Premiership title against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Arsene Wenger's team - buoyed by their 2-0 FA Cup win over Chelsea on Saturday - travel north knowing that a draw will seal a repeat of their 1998 Premiership and FA Cup double.

To win the Double twice - not many players have done that

"To win the championship at Old Trafford would be very special," said Parlour.

"All our minds are on that game now. I don't think there will be many fans left in the stands for our lap of honour if we win it there!"

Parlour scored the Gunners opening goal in their FA Cup final win - and afterwards admitted he is happy to keep playing the role of understudy.

It was something of a shock that Parlour even started the match, as Brazilian Edu has been preferred by manager Arsene Wenger in recent weeks.

"I don't get in the limelight like some of the other players do, but I'm happy with that," he said.

"And to win the Double twice, not many players have done that," he said with a satisfied smile.

Up until Parlour's goal the game had been finely poised and Chelsea had more than matched their London rivals.

"Chelsea were playing very well and the first goal was always going to be crucial," he said.

"There wasn't a lot of support, so I thought 'why not?' I caught it well, and next thing I knew, it was in the back of the net.

"I've only scored one other goal this season, so today was very special."

Despite his impressive performance at the Millennium Stadium, Parlour said he did not expect to be going to the World Cup this summer.

"I think that went quite a while ago," he admitted. "When I missed out on the friendlies I knew my chance had gone."
