The Arsenal manager is confident that his side can wrap up the title with one game to go after witnessing his side complete a 2-0 victory over Chelsea at the Millennium Stadium. "We will do it," Wenger said after watching skipper Tony Adams collect the FA Cup for the third time in his 19-year career. "We have a big game on Wednesday and we will try to do it then."
They need only a point at Old Trafford to clinch it. Wenger said: "We were very frustrated last year. We have shown a lot of strength to come back here - beating Liverpool and Newcastle on the way. "Both Parlour and Ljungberg were fantastic today and in the end I think we deserved to win." And the victory purged any bitter memories of last year's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool. Ray Parlour, who opened the scoring for Arsenal, said: "It is a great day, we were really disappointed last year. "We ground out the result in what was a really tough game." Explaining his goal he added: "I caught it well and I knew it was going into the top corner. I don't score many like that. "It is fantastic for our fans and I hope we can do it on Wednesday as well."
"The important thing is we won," he said. "We fight for each other and we love to play football. "We lost the last cup final and we were determined to win today. You don't want to be remembered for losing two finals in a row." Patrick Vieira said: "It was important for the club and the players. Last year we were very disappointed to lose. "This year we showed our character and desire. All through the year we have showed we wanted to win the competition." Dennis Bergkamp added: "This is amazing. It is a great result for us and a brilliant day. "This is more than when I used to dream of the FA Cup. When you bounce back straight after a disappointment it says it all."
"It is really hard because we thought we were in control of the game when they scored," Le Saux said. "But Arsenal broke away and it was a fantastic finish by Parlour. "The second goal was just a kick in the teeth - it was a wonderful run with a great finish. "We really thought we could win. We played with belief and interchanged the ball well. "It is just one of those disappointing things." |
