| Monday, 7 October, 2002, 06:29 GMT 07:29 UK Carlisle 1-2 Torquay Martin Gritton scored a last-gasp winner for Torquay at Carlisle. The Torquay player snatched the points for his team after Carlisle substitute Lee Andrews had lost possession. The visitors had started impressively when David Graham's shot deflected off Carlisle's Michael Taylor and spun over goalkeeper Peter Keen into the net. But the hosts levelled through Craig Farrell. Torquay goalkeeper Kevin Dearden was partly to blame for the goal after flapping at a Mark Magennis, which fell into Farrell's path. John Sutton was within a whisker of putting Carlisle ahead but Dearden snatched the ball away from him following Peter Murphy's cross. Defender Darren Kelly had another good opportunity for Carlisle but his effort was cleared off the line by Torquay's Alex Russell before Gritton scored the winner. Carlisle: Keen, Shelley, Kelly, Taylor, Murphy, McGill, Summerbell, Magennis, Osman, Sutton, Farrell. Subs: Birch, Andrews, Wake, McDonagh, Freeman. Torquay: Dearden, Canoville, Hazell, Woozley, Hankin, Bedeau, Fowler, Russell, Hill, Graham, Gritton. Subs: Holmes, Hockley, Benefield, Attwell, Brown. Referee: G Salisbury (Lancashire). |
