| Tuesday, 11 February, 2003, 22:53 GMT Wigan 1-1 Blackpool A late strike from Blackpool substitute Scott Taylor handed Steve McMahon's side a deserved share of the spoils at leaders Wigan. A thumping local derby had everything in terms of thrills and spills but Wigan will be disappointed not to take all three points in their quest for First Division football. They stormed into the lead inside the first minute when Andy Liddell flicked home a deflected shot from Nicky Eaden and had enough chances to have sewn victory up by the break. Record signing Nathan Ellington missed a whole string of chances, the worst coming when he completely mis-kicked with the goal at his mercy. Blackpool goalkeeper Phil Barnes also produced a brilliant save to deny Lee McCulloch. But Blackpool upped the tempo after the break and Taylor's 20-yard strike with six minutes left was no more than the visitors deserved. Wigan are still nine points clear of second-placed Crewe. Wigan: Filan, Eaden, De Vos, Jackson, Kennedy, Teale, Dinning, Bullard, McCulloch, Ellington, Liddell. Subs: Yeomans, Roberts, McMillan, Jarrett, Breckin. Blackpool: Barnes, Richardson, Hendry, Grayson, Flynn, Bullock, Evans, Southern, Thornley, Walker, Murphy. Subs: Wellens, Taylor, Coid, Lonergan, Clarke. Referee: G Laws (Tyne & Wear) |
