Darren Edmondson's side are four points off the play-offs

Workington Reds manager Darren Edmondson believes a strong bond within his squad has been the catalyst for their six-match winning run.

Reds beat Ilkeston 3-1 on Wednesday to move into the Blue Square North play-offs for the first time this season and Edmondson hailed his players' spirit.

"That's what is in that dressing room," Edmondson told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"It's a fabulous bunch of lads to be around and that camaraderie shone out against Ilkeston."

Edmondson added: "At times, a team that's together can overcome a lot of individuals that have got ability, and we showed it again tonight with a comfortable victory, even down to ten men at the end."

Reds are currently fifth in the Blue Square North and occupy the final play-off place with five games left to play.

One potential blow for Edmondson could be the condition of striker Gareth Arnison following the win against the Nottinghamshire side.

Arnison limped off in the final stages of the victory to leave Reds with just ten men, and Edmondson admitted he and his staff will continue to monitor the knock.

"He [Arnison] already had a problem ankle, and he's stood on the lad's foot and he got quite a bad twist on it,"

"It's very sore at the moment and he's a bit nervous about it, he's in quite a bit of pain.

"We'll maybe get him to hospital and assess it, let's hope it's not too bad but at the moment he's in quite a bit of discomfort from it."
