Barrow 1-0 Kidderminster

Phil Bolland
Bolland's goal could prove vital for the Bluebirds survival this term

Barrow eased their relegation worries with a win over Kidderminster Harriers that lifts them to 17th place.

The Bluebirds took an early lead as Andy Bond's free-kick fell to Phil Bolland, who shot past a scrambling Jasbir Singh from the edge of the area.

Harriers put Barrow under extreme pressure as the interval approached but Jack Byrne shot wide of an empty net.

Robbie Matthews missed another great chance inside the box but fired wide and Barrow held on to claim the points.

The home side started brightly and were rewarded with an early goal with four minutes gone from a free-kick after Martin Riley's challenge on Nick Chadwick.

Bond's well-struck free-kick ricocheted off the wall and eventually fell to Bolland who scored.

It took Kidderminster nearly half an hour to begin fashioning chances.

The best fell to Byrne on 35 minutes who pounced on Dean Bennett's 18-yard strike after it rebounded off the post only to shoot wide of a clear goal.

Harriers started the brighter after the interval keeping the Bluebirds pinned in their own half.

The home side struggled to get into their stride as Kidderminster adopted a fluency to their game with accurate passing and good movement.

They won an indirect free-kick on 75 minutes which was taken by Lee Baker.

He found Matthews inside the box and after a lucky bounce cut out the covering defender he shot to the right of the target.

Substitute Carlos Logan came close to doubling the Bluebirds' lead in the final minute of stoppage time with a 30-yard effort but it dipped too late and cleared the crossbar.
