Tadcaster Albion still eyeing promotion

Tadcaster Albion manager Paul Marshall believes his side can still win promotion from NCEL Division One after their enforced bad weather break.

Albion led the table in November but are now 14 points adrift of new leaders Leeds Carnegie after drawing 1-1 there on Monday.

Marshall told BBC Radio York: "Carnegie have stolen a march on everybody with three wins in a week.

"With 19 games to go I'm still quite confident we'll get promoted."

The bad weather restricted Albion to just one game in two months.

On returning to action they lost 2-1 at Brighouse before the 1-1 draw at Carnegie, but Marshall was pleased with the two displays.

"I didn't know what to expect after such a long break and not a great deal of training," Marshall added, "but I'm delighted with two excellent performances. It should have been six points."

Fourth-placed Albion led for 55 minutes at Carnegie through Jeff Steven before Marcel Okoro's late equaliser.

Marshall said: "If we can get our games in on Saturdays and Tuesdays for the next two, three months, we'll be able to pick up some points and I'm sure we can catch Staveley and Emley.

"We've brought two new players in (midfielder Terry Taylor and defender Andy Dawson) and strengthened the squad to make sure we can rotate players and keep everybody fit and fresh."

Albion have two home games coming up, against Grimsby Borough in the league on Saturday and Bottesford Town three days later in the Wilkinson Sword Trophy semi-final.
