Cambridge Utd 0-1 York

Neil Barrett
Barrett's last goal for York was against Stoke in the FA Cup third round

York extended their record-breaking winning run to nine league games as they overcame struggling Cambridge.

The U's looked more likely to break the deadlock in the first half with Robbie Wilmott having several efforts on goal.

Neil Barrett gave York an early second-half lead with their first attempt on target by firing past U's keeper Danny Potter from outside the area.

Lee Phillips went close to netting an equaliser but he was unable to get his shot from close range on target.

Michael Rankine had almost doubled the lead for York midway through the second half but his header was tipped away impressively by Potter.

The U's have now lost their last five league games and find themselves stuck in mid-table, 13 points adrift of the play-off places.

Cambridge defender Wayne Hatswell was handed the man-of-the-match award at Abbey Stadium in his last appearance for the club.

The 34-year-old, who joined the U's from Rushden in January 2008, has agreed a two-year deal as a player-coach with League of Ireland side Dundalk.
