Gray returns to the region after a year with Chesterfield

Workington Reds have signed defender Kevin Gray following his release from League Two side Chesterfield.

The 36-year-old links up with manager and former Huddersfield team-mate Darren Edmondson at Borough Park.

Blue Square Premier side Mansfield Town were also interested but the centre-back decided against returning to the club where he began his career.

Coniston-born Gray also spent three-and a-half years at Carlisle United from 2003, making more than 145 appearances.

Workington Reds start the new Blue Square North season at Hinckley United on Saturday 9 August.
