| Tuesday, 2 July, 2002, 14:33 GMT 15:33 UK Gray signs for Tranmere Kevin Gray has been installed as Tranmere Rovers' new captain after joining the club from Huddersfield Town. Gray ended an eight-year stint with the Yorkshire club to take up a new challenge at Prenton Park. And the 30-year-old defender has set his sights on a promotion campaign under Dave Watson this season. "No ifs or buts. We are going for promotion back to Division One," Gray told the club's website. "If you are even thinking about not getting promotion then you might as well pack it in. "I'm really looking forward to the challenge ahead. I'm here to win things, not lose. Bring it on. "After being at Huddersfield for eight years, and with the recent change in management there, I felt it was time for a change, and a new challenge." Gray captained Mansfield Town at the age of 19 and also had a spell as skipper at Huddersfield. And Watson is looking for the centre-back to bring his experience to bear at Rovers. "I am absolutely thrilled with this signing. Kevin is a great character and a born leader who will have a great influence on the younger players around him," Watson added. |
