ENGLAND
Emmanuel Adebayor
Adebayor returned with two goals for the Gunners

Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor made a big impact on his return to action for Arsenal, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win over Manchester City.

The striker had been out for six weeks with a hamstring injury, but it took him only eight minutes to get on the scoresheet with a header.

The second came after half-time, when he rounded goalkeeper Shay Given.

Benni McCarthy, who chose not to play for South Africa in two friendlies last week, scored for Blackburn Rovers.

McCarthy's tap-in drew Blackburn level, and they went on to beat Tottenham 2-1.

SPAIN

Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o continued his outstanding form with the only goal in Barcelona's 1-0 win over Valladolid.

It takes his tally to 26 for the season.

Mali striker Frederic Kanoute grabbed his 16th goal of the season as Sevilla beat Recreativo Huelva 1-0.

FRANCE

Morocco striker Marouane Chamakh scored with a half-volley to give his side Bordeaux a 1-0 win over Nancy.

Algerian Nacim Akrour pulled a goal back for Grenoble, but it was not enough as they lost 3-1 to Lorient.

Mali defender Sami Traore also found the back of the net as his side Paris Saint Germain beat Nice 2-1.

Senegal striker Mamadou Niang scored twice for Marseille, including one from the penalty spot, as Marseille beat St Etienne 3-0.

Another Senegalese, Massamba Sambou, scored the only goal for Le Havre as they triumphed away at Monaco.

BELGIUM

Cameroon's Joel Epalle put Bochum in the lead after half-time, but his side went onto lose 2-1 to Stuttgart.

HOLLAND

Morocco striker Mounir El Hamdaoui was once again among the goal scorers as his side AZ Alkmaar thumped Den Haag 4-1.

Ivory Coast's Sekou Cisse scored for Roda with 20 minutes remaining, but it was not enough for his side, who lost 2-1 to visiting Ajax.

BELGIUM

Zimbabwean's Honour Gombami scored the opening goal for Cercles Bruges, but his side went on to lose 3-1 to Zulte-Waregem.

Joseph Akpala of Nigeria gave Club Bruges the lead as they triumphed 2-1 over Charleroi.

TURKEY

Cameroonian Herve Tum sealed victory for Sivasspor as they won 2-0 away at Denizlispor.

Tunisia striker Ali Zitouni scored twice for 10-man Antalyaspor, who beat Genclerbirligi 4-2.
