African goals in Europe: 7-8 Feb

SPAIN

Samuel Eto'o
Eto'o remains on top of the scoring charts in Spain's La Liga
Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o is still the top scorer in La Liga - after netting two more goals on Sunday as Barcelona defeated Sporting Gijon 3-1.

He now has 21 goals in the league this season - and is well on the way to becoming the first player to score more than 30 goals in La Liga since Brazil's Ronaldo achieved the same feat in the 1996/97 season.

Barcelona stay top in Spain with 59 points from 22 games.

Mali's Frederic Kanoute has been much less prolific this season, but he did score this weekend - a consolation when he slotted home in the last minute as Sevilla went down 2-1 to Real Betis.

Sevilla were down to 10 men for much of that game, as were Almeria in their match against Malaga. Nigerian striker Kalu Uche scored his sixth goal of the season to give Almeria the lead in the 26th minute - but they eventually lost 3-2.

GERMANY

Namibian striker Collin Benjamin scored Hamburg's second goal to put his side 2-0 up at Karlsruhe - but Karlsruhe fought back to win 3-2 with a late winner.

No goals for the African stars at leaders Hoffenheim - but their 1-1 draw against Borussia Moenchengladbach keeps them top by a point.

HOLLAND

Leaders AZ Alkmaar came from behind to beat Willem II 3-1, with Moroccans on target for both sides.

The league's top scorer Mounir El-Hamdaoui sealed the points for Alkmaar after fellow countryman Said Boutahar had given Willem II the lead.

Ghanaian midfielder Eric Addo was sent off with 10 minutes remaining in the game as his side Roda JC lost 1-0 at Sparta Rotterdam.

And another Moroccan, Ali Boussaboun was among the scorers for Utrecht who came from behind to beat Den Haag 3-1.

FRANCE

Benin's Stephane Sessegnon scored in the 70th minute for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a comfortable 4-1 win over Nantes - but it was all downhill for Sochaux after the expulsion of their Senegalese defender Omar Daf.

Sochaux were leading 2-0 away at Lille but after Daf was sent off early in the second-half, Lille launched a comeback to win 3-2.

Nigerian defender Onyekachi Apam was on target for Nice who hosted the league leaders Lyon who eventually won the game 3-1 with their Cameroon striker Jean Makoun scoring twice.

And there was disappointment for the Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh, who conceded an own goal as his side Bordeaux lost 1-0 at Marseille.

BELGIUM

Across the border in Belgium, Senegalese striker Moussa Gueye scored for Mons-Bergen in their short-lived two-goal lead as they lost 3-2 at Anderlecht, whilst Cameroonian midfielder Ernest Nfor gave 10-man Zulte-Waregem the lead as they edged passed Racing Genk 2-1.

South Africa's Quinton Fortune was making his debut for lowly placed Tubize - having signed on loan from Brescia in Italy's Serie A. But it didn't go well. Not only were Tubize beaten 5-1 by Mechelen, but Fortune was sent off after picking up two yellow cards.

It's not often we hear about a player from the Central African Republic in the European game - but striker Habib Habibou put his country on the map after scoring for Charleroi in their 2-2 draw with Cercles Bruges.

PORTUGAL

Angola's Mateus scored the final goal for Nacional Madeira in their 4-0 battering of Naval.

Elsewhere, Senegalese Baba Diawara pulled a late goal back for Maritimo who lost 2-1 at Vitoria Guimaraes.

Albert Ze Meyong from Cameroon was on target for Braga as his side won 3-2 at Sporting Lisbon,

TURKEY

Guinean striker Souleymane Youla continued his sharp form of late as he gave Eskisehirspor the lead in their 2-2 draw with Hacettepe Spor Kulubu.

Shabani Nonda was on the score-sheet again for 10-man Galatasaray, who drew 1-1 with Kayserispor.

Namibian Razundara Tjikuzu scored one of the goals for Istanbul Buyuksehir in their 2-0 triumph over Fenerbahce but he was sent off in the last minute of the match.
