Rushen United close in on Manx Premier League title

Football

Rushen United moved another step closer to securing Isle of Man Premier League title with a 3-0 home win over Castletown on Wednesday evening.

Two goals from Josh Kelly and a Jack Saxon strike mean that Rushen will be crowed champions if they can beat Michael at home next Wednesday.

Rushen captain Paul Jones said: "The excitement is building with every match and we are all fully focused."

The southerners have not won the Manx first division for 22 years.

Jones continued: "We all know what winning the league would mean to everyone involved at the club and we will be giving everything against Michael next week."

Meanwhile, Laxey maintained their outside chance with a 3-2 win over Peel at Glen Road.

Elsewhere, St Mary's challenge is over after they lost 5-1 at Old Boys and St Georges beat Ramsey 1-0.
