Collins Cup postponed until 2010

Football in a net

The WJ Collins Cup involving clubs from Jersey and Guernsey has been postponed.

The Cup, which was due to start in October, features the bottom four clubs from Guernsey's top flight and the bottom five from Jersey.

But ferry schedules and the cost of inter-island travel have caused delays to the arrangements.

The league secretary of the Guernsey Football Association, Garry Cortez said: "We don't quite know if we'll be able to fit it in."

"We won't be entering into it until after Christmas and then we'll discuss between both islands to see if we can set something up."

The cup, named after a former Guernsey player, was first held during the 1993/94 season. Guernsey's Belgrave Wanderers have won it the most times with four victories and are the only club to have retained the trophy.

Guernsey's Rangers currently hold the title after winning the cup last season, beating Jersey-based Grouville 3-1 in the final.
