Harvey is looking forward to the World Cup

Guernsey's latest world champion Adam Harvey has said the support of his brother was key to his success at the World Kayak Surf Championships.

Harvey won the Junior High Performance Class at the event in Portugal which finished on Sunday.

His older brother Chris is one of the world's top performers and won the UK Championships in 2008.

"Ever since I was young he's been helping me at every step... and for that I thank him," said Harvey.

Harvey featured in the Channel Island team which ended the week with two world champions, another three medals and two top-four finishes.

He trains in Guernsey whenever he gets the chance: "If there's ever surf I just try and get there, push myself and always try to learn new things."

As for what the future holds Harvey said: "We're looking to run some Guernsey competitions, hopefully in the next few months, and Channel Island competitions as well.

"The next big one will be a World Cup next year so I'll have to qualify for that in competitions in England and hopefully get a title from that as well."
